‘In 2015, we came across the post of a clinical psychologist on the official website of SKIMS. Every day, we would check on the website about the results and nothing came up.’
Srinagar: Despite the epidemic of mental health illness that pervades Kashmir, the SKIMS Soura administration has withdrawn an advertisement notice for a post of clinical psychologist after six years, thus leaving the short-listed candidates in a fix.
In a notification dated June 19, 2020, the SKIMS administration has issued the withdrawal of various advertisement notifications.
“In terms of instructions contained in column-1 of Government order under reference, the posts advertised vide Advertisement Notice No’s shown against each in annexure “A” to this notice hereby are withdrawn,” the order reads.
“In 2015, we came across the post of a clinical psychologist on the official website of SKIMS. Every day, we would check on the website about the results and nothing came up. Three years passed and a notification was posted in 2017. Four candidates were selected and I was one of them,” Zoya Mir, a clinical psychologist, said.
She said after five years of waiting, a notification comes and has jeopardized all their hopes.
“In the times of Covid, the mental health issues have gone up, and there is a dire need for clinical psychologists. And here we have got no posts. Even the previous notifications are also overlooked. This shows the seriousness of the government towards our plight,” she said.
Seconding her, Isha Malik, a clinical psychologist, who was also among the selected candidates said the notification came like a jolt out of the blue.
“That time, they said there will be a written examination or some interview. Even that proved to an eye-wash as the posts are already withdrawn in the latest notification,” Isha said.
She said that last year when she approached the SKIMS administration, they came up with the pretext of abrogation and non-availability of the internet for not proceeding with the notification.
“Now it’s of no use as all our hopes are dashed,” she said.
Director SKIMS, Dr. AG Ahanger told Kashmir Observer that the SKIMS administration has withdrawn the notification in line with the government’s directives.
“Only the ones which the finance department has cleared or some of the fresh notifications can be advertised. We have to abide by the government’s rules and regulations,” he said.
