Srinagar: A day after government declared that it will constitute an expert panel and task it to examine the demands for creation of new administrative units in a few left-out areas of the state, protests over the issue continued in Kashmir.
Scores of residents of Kaprin Shopain Thursday staged a protest in Press Enclave Srinagar demanding tehsil status for the area.
Our area Kaprin is comprised of eight Panchayat Halkas and nine Panchayat blocks. It has a population of 2,000 while its adjoining villages including Batagund, Rakpor, Kachadora, Ratnipora, Mantribugh, Dangam, Wangam, Chakoora, Pratapora, Pandushan, Padsu, Gadipora have a population of 50,000. The present government ignored all these facts and deprived us from tehsil status. The protestors said that Nayabat to Kaprin was given in 1961 and after that nothing was done to upgrade the status of Kaprin Shopian.
Justice was not done to us and we were ignored under a well planned conspiracy. There is every government office in the area and the infrastructure that is required for a tehsil is present in the area, one of the protestors Advocate Ehsan-ul-Haq said.
The protesters said that if their demand is not met, all the village representative in the area will submit their resignations. They said that they will start massive agitation if Tehsil status is not accorded to the Kaprin Shopian.
Meanwhile, protests continue in different parts of Kashmir over sidelining different areas and depriving them from tehsil and block status. Residents of Drabgam Pulwama and Khrew staged a protest alleging that the government sidelined their areas on the basis of politics.
Meanwhile, the residents of Tribjee, Rakh Moman and Arwani in Bijbehara have appealed to the Government to retain them with Bijbehara tehsil.
