PULWAMA: A complete shutdown was observed for the second consecutive day in South Kashmirs Pulwama district on Saturday against the random arrest of youth during late night raids in the district. Sources said that in wake of possible protests on the first death anniversary of Muhammad Afzal Guroo,Police have arrested at least 28 youth during nocturnal raids in different areas of Pulwama. Police said that all the arrested youth are allegedly involved in different incidents of stone-pelting.
Reports said that people in Pulwama district observed a complete shutdown against the random arrests of youth. Shops, tutorial institutions, and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off from the road.
Scores of youth resorted to stone-pelting at Rajpora and Muran Chowk of the district and reportedly damaged the windowpanes of some police vehicles, however, police exercised restraint and did not retaliate.
People alleged that police randomly raided the houses during the dead of night and arrested various youth.
Confirming the arrest of some youth, a police official told CNS that all these youth were involved in stone-pelting incidents. Some of them are likely to be released after two days, he said.
Some of the arrested youth have been identified as Amir Hansan Ganaie, Amir Bashir residents of Nadeem Ahmed Bhat, Raju Hajam, Muhammad Amir Mir,residents of Karimabad, Muhammad Abrar (Rajpora), Manzoor Ahmed Lone (Lelhar), Imtiyaz Ahmed, Javid Ahmed, Bilal Ahmed Lone and Nazir Ahmed Wagary all residents of Kakapora Pulwama.
