Abducted girl rescued from city

SRINAGAR: Police on Saturday rescued a minor girl from Srinagar, who was allegedly abducted last week by an army trooper from Kupwara district of north Kashmir.

Sources said that the 8th standard girl (name withheld) was abducted by soldier Riyaz Ahmd Khan, son of Habibulah Khan of Nathnusa, Kupwara, Of 162 Territioral Army, (H-Coy) near her house in Lalpora area of the frontier district on January 26.

After abduction, the trooper kept her in an undisclosed location in Rangreth, in the Srinagar outskirts.

After receiving a complaint from the family that their minor daughter has gone missing, police swung into action and started investigations. Police got a tip off that that the girl was last seen with Riyaz, sources said.

Acting on the clue, a police team raided the house of Riyaz and detained his brother Majid Ahmad Khan, who is also a trooper of162 TA (C Coy) for questioning. The police achieved a breakthrough by collecting the call details.

A team led by SHO, Lalpora carried out a raid in Srinagars Rangreth on Sunday and recovered the girl. However, the accused trooper managed to flee, sources said, adding The girl was taken for medical exmanitation. Sexual assault can be confirmed only when the report comes,

Meanwhile, police has registered a case Fir No 4/2014 under section 363/109 RPC and launched a manhunt to nab the accused trooper.

The girl was rescued on Sunday after receiving leads. She has been handed over to family after completion of legal formalities, SHO, Lalpora said..
