Anantnag: The shooting of Vishal Bhardwajs film ‘Haider’ had to be suspended Thursday after it faced protests from spectators.
Reports said that local residents gathered at the venue started hurling snow balls at the crew of ‘Haider’ — Bollywood adaption of Shakespearean play Hamlet — when they were shooting some sequences at Keribal area of Anantnag district.
When the Bollywood crew arrived at Sun Temple in Kehribal Anantang to shoot a sequence for Haider, spectators gathered at the spot and were eagerly waiting for the lead actor Shahid Kapoor.
However when Kapoor arrived and alighted from his car, spectators mostly youth tried to encircle him and some of them tried to enter into Sun-Temple. Police swung into action and tried to control the crowd.
However, some started hooting and hurled snow-balls on police resulting in chaos and confusion.
As the crowd tried to break police barricades, police charged them with canes and in the clashes. At least four policemen and many spectators were injured.
A police official told CNS that some enthusiastic youth tried to come close to the actor while police tried to control the crowd to ensure safety of the crew members Some of the youth started hooting and pelted snow-balls. Our four cops were injured, however, the situation was brought under control after some time, he said and confirmed that Bollywood crew left without shoot the sequence for the movie.
According to reports the crew later resumed shooting at another sun temple in Mattan village of the district.
