
Srinagar- A total of 22 empowerment hubs for women are operational in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh under the Government of India’s Mission Shakti scheme, according to data from the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
Jammu & Kashmir has one State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW) and 20 District Hubs (DHEWs), while Ladakh has one SHEW and two DHEWs functioning across its districts.
Each hub is required to have two gender specialists as per Mission Shakti guidelines.
In terms of funding, Jammu & Kashmir received Rs 7.25 crore in 2023–24 and Rs 3.17 crore in 2024–25, totaling Rs 10.42 crore in the past two years. Ladakh received Rs 45.75 lakh each in 2022–23 and 2023–24, and Rs 59.25 lakh in 2024–25, amounting to Rs 1.50 crore over three years.
Mission Shakti is aimed at institutionalising women’s safety, support, and empowerment at state and district levels.
