
New Delhi-The Statesman, one of India’s oldest newspaper groups, has taken over the management of United News of India (UNI), a multilingual news agency established in 1959.
The new management plans to revamp and expand news operations of the UNI, a fledgling news gathering agency, besides upgrading its communication network and software technology.
The new management has pledged to run UNI on strictly professional lines and has appointed veteran journalist Sheikh Manzoor Ahmed as Consulting Editor (News).
Sheikh Manzoor, who hails from Kashmir has a distinguished career as journalist with more than nearly four decades experience of reporting from the national capital of India for various domestic and international news organisations, including UNI.
He previously served as a diplomatic correspondent and Editor of UNI’s Urdu news service. He was also Chief of Bureau for Kuwait News Agency.
