Srinagar- The Intellectual Property Awareness (IP) Program under the MSME Innovative Scheme concluded successfully in Bandipora. Organized by the Ministry of MSME (PPDC Extension Centre, Srinagar) in collaboration with Hassan Khoyihami Memorial Government Degree College Patushay Bandipora, the program aimed to empower students with IPR awareness, industrial-level technology insights, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
The valedictory session was presided over by Prof. Bilquees Rasool, Principal, Hassan Khoyihami Memorial Government Degree College Patushay Bandipora, who emphasized the significance of IPR and technological advancements. “We are delighted to collaborate with MSME for this IPR awareness program. Such initiatives help enrich students’ skills and create opportunities in fields like drone technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), IoT, and robotics,” she stated.
A special lecture on IPR was delivered by the Guest of honour at the event Mr. Shahid Ansari, Founder and CEO of Startup Kashmir, who provided valuable insights into intellectual property rights, patents, trademarks, copyrights, and how startups can leverage IPR for innovation and business growth. In addition to the lecture, Mr. Shahid conducted practical sessions, where students engaged in real-world case studies on patents and trademarks, simulated the process of filing intellectual property applications, and explored strategies for protecting and commercializing their innovations.
The Chief Patron of the workshop, Dr. Ashwin Dhivakar, Assistant Director, Ministry of MSME (PPDC Extension Centre, Srinagar), highlighted the limited number of IPR programs granted to J&K and Ladakh. “This year, the Ministry of MSME has allocated only three IPR awareness programs for the entire region, covering Ladakh, Bandipora, and Gurez. Given the growing importance of intellectual property in fostering innovation, such initiatives are crucial in equipping students and entrepreneurs with the necessary knowledge to protect and commercialize their ideas,” he stated.
During the IPR program, 200 students from Bandipora actively participated in sessions covering intellectual property rights, patents, trademarks, copyrights, along with discussions on IPR funding opportunities and government support for entrepreneurs.
Innovation and Intellectual Property Protection
Ajaz Hussain, Convener and Nodal Officer of the IPR Workshop from the Ministry of MSME PPDC Extension Centre Srinagar, put great emphasis on the role of innovation and the necessity of securing intellectual property rights. He further added:“Innovation is the backbone of technological advancement and entrepreneurship. However, without proper protection through patents, trademarks, and copyrights, many groundbreaking ideas are at risk of being lost or exploited.
Through this workshop, we aim to equip students with the knowledge and resources needed to protect their intellectual assets and transform ideas into sustainable ventures,” he stated.
Dr. Irshad Ahmad Bhat, Assistant Professor, Head Department of Physics, and NSS Program Officer, Government Degree College Bandipora, highlighted the importance of conducting such events to foster a culture of innovation and intellectual property awareness. He emphasized that IPR is a crucial pillar in shaping a knowledge-based economy and ensuring that innovators receive due recognition and benefits for their work.
Irshad Gani, Coordinator from the Ministry of MSME PPDC Extension Centre Srinagar, also stressed the need for more such programs. “Workshops like these help students understand the legal and commercial aspects of intellectual property, which is essential for building a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem. By equipping young minds with IPR knowledge, we are laying the foundation for a future driven by innovation and protected ideas,” he added.
The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Awareness Program marked a significant milestone in bridging the IPR and technology gap in Bandipora and empowering students with essential IPR knowledge and skills for their entrepreneurial journey!
