Srinagar- A three-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Program (EAP) and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) program concluded successfully in Ladakh. Organized by the Ministry of MSME (PPDC Extension Centre, Srinagar) in collaboration with NIELIT Leh and the University of Ladakh, the program aimed to empower students with industrial-level technology awareness and entrepreneurship opportunities.
During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between MSME PPDC E.C Srinagar and NIELIT Leh to strengthen collaboration in skill development, innovation, and technology-based entrepreneurship in the region.
The valedictory session was presided over by Dr. Phuntsog Toldhan, Director, NIELIT Leh, who emphasized the significance of technological advancements in Ladakh. “We are delighted to collaborate with MSME for this awareness program. Such initiatives help enrich students’ skills and create opportunities in fields like drone technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), IoT, and robotics,” he stated.
The Chief Patron of the workshop was Dr. Ashwin Dhivakar, Assistant Director, Ministry of MSME (PPDC Extension Centre, Srinagar). He highlighted that MSME PPDC has conducted 534 entrepreneurship skill development programs (ESDPs) throughout India this year, including 260 one-day awareness programs, 148 management development programs, and 126 six-week skill development programs in various emerging technologies like 3D printing, IoT, and automation. He further added that the Srinagar centre alone conducted 37 one-day awareness programs, 13 one-week management development programs, and 15 six-week entrepreneurship skill development programs. The coordinators for the program were Ubaid ul Rehman and Irshad Ahmad.
Ajaz Hussain, the Nodal Officer of the program, summarized the three-day event, emphasizing the growing need for technological skills in Ladakh. “This is just the beginning of a small initiative taken by the Ministry of MSME to spread a technology-driven culture in Ladakh, where technical institutions are limited. However, this will not stop aspiring entrepreneurs from pursuing innovation,” he stated.
During the program, 400 students from Ladakh actively participated in sessions covering 3D printing, laser engraving, IoT, robotics, and automation, along with funding opportunities and government support for entrepreneurs.
Mohd Salim Jan, the Program Coordinator, stressed the importance of practical-based courses for students. “Hands-on learning experiences, especially in 3D technology and automation, will greatly benefit students in Ladakh,” he said. He also acknowledged emerging startups like Ladakh Electro Hub and Ladakh Paragliding Adventure, which are contributing to the technological development of the region.
The Entrepreneurship Awareness Program and the signing of the MoU marked a significant milestone in bridging the technology gap in Ladakh and empowering students with essential skills for their entrepreneurial journey.
The program coordinators included Dr. Mehaboob, Assistant Professor, University of Ladakh, Mohamad Salim, Project Coordinator, NIELIT Leh, Ubaid ul Rehman and Irshad Ahmad, MSME PPDC E.C Srinagar.
