Srinagar- Kashmiri students appearing for the CSIR-UGC NET JRF exam on March 1, 2025, have urged the National Testing Agency (NTA) to allocate examination centers in Srinagar, citing logistical and financial difficulties in traveling to distant locations.
During the application process, students had selected Srinagar as their preferred choice, as the exam has historically been conducted in nearby centers. However, many have now been assigned centers in Jammu and as far as Noida, Uttar Pradesh, contrary to their initial preference.
Speaking to Kashmir Observer, an aggrieved student said, “We demand that our examination centers be set up in Srinagar. Traveling to Noida or even Jammu is a huge burden for us, both financially and mentally.”
Another student stated, “Given the unpredictable weather conditions and travel uncertainties, it is unfair to expect us to appear for the exam outside Kashmir. The authorities must reconsider their decision.”
The CSIR-UGC NET is a crucial examination for determining eligibility for Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professorship.
Students said the unexpected allocation of distant exam centers has left students anxious about their ability to appear for the test without undue hardship.
The affected candidates have collectively demanded that NTA set up centers in Srinagar to accommodate Kashmiri students. “We request immediate action from NTA to ensure that our examination centers are within Kashmir,” pleaded a group of aspirants.
Students said that they have been mailing NTA but they have recieved no response. They have urged the government to take up the issue with NTA.
