
Srinagar- Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police on Wednesday said to have arrested four drug peddlers in Anantnag & Handwara and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
Police party from Police Station Aishmuqam under the supervision of SDPO Pahalgam at a checkpoint established at Brad Aishmuqam and arrested two drug peddlers identified as Farooq Ahmad Lone son in law of Gh Rasool Itoo resident of Paith Nambal A/P Yall and Zafar Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Afzal Bhat resident of Khayar, a police spokesman said in a statement.
During the search, 7.2Kgs of Cannabis Husk and 256 grams of Cannabis Powder-like substance was recovered from their possession, police said.
“Similarly in Handwara, A police team led by IC PP Chogul intercepted a vehicle Swift Dzire bearing registration No. JK09D-5264 with two persons on board. During the search of the vehicle, 8.30 grams of a heroin-like substance from their possession. They have been identified as Faisal Ahmad son of Ab. Jabar Lone resident of Bramri, Kupwara and Tahir Habib son of Habibullah Dar resident of Jaggerpora, Kupwara. They have been arrested besides, vehicles used in the commission of crime has also been seized.”
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in respective Police Stations and further investigation has been initiated.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
