Srinagar- A seminar was held at Masjid Sajjadiya in Hasanabad which brought together scholars, academics, and community members to delve into the rich literary and cultural heritage of Kashmir.
Organized by the Moulana Mullah Saeed Muhammad Hamdani Foundation in collaboration with the Mullah Intizamiya Committee Hassanabad, the event shed light on the contributions of the Mullah family to theology, literature, and poetry.
Dr. Sameer Siddiqui, an Islamic scholar, highlighted the universality of the Marsiya tradition in Islamic culture. “Marsiya is a great way to promote the teachings of Islam and Islamic culture. It is a collective legacy of all Muslims,” he stated, emphasizing its literary and spiritual significance.
“Kashmiri Marsiya is not just a literary treasure but a reality to the cultural and civilizational depth of Kashmir, deserving of deeper exploration and preservation,” he added.
Islamic scholar Aga Syed Hadi underlined the seminar’s academic aspirations, stating, “Through the Moulana Mullah Saeed Muhammad Hamdani Foundation, the rich literature in Kashmiri Marsiya will be explored and worked on at an academic level, which is the need of the hour.”
Academic Dr. Rashid Maqbool praised the unique style and diction of Kashmiri Marsiya.
“Although Marsiya has been written in different languages like Arabic, Persian, and Urdu, the Kashmiri Marsiya stands out for its distinctive literary vibrancy, reflecting the civilizational richness of Kashmir,” Maqbool said.
Rare manuscripts and artefacts were also put to display on the sidelines of the event.
Attendees called on the Kashmiri populace to protect the legacy of the Mullah family, which includes luminaries such as Mullah Abdul Ghani and Mullah Tahir Ghani.
