Srinagar- The Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has announced a peaceful sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on December 14, 2024, demanding a comprehensive review of the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir.
The association, representing the interests of students and youth from the J&K, seeks to address the concerns over what they perceive as an unjust reservation system that has impacted the opportunities available to deserving candidates in the region.
The protest comes after the recent statement by the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, who acknowledged the ongoing concerns surrounding the reservation policy. In a public address, the CM had highlighted the formation of a sub-committee to examine the matter thoroughly and ensure fairness in the system.
The committee is expected to review the existing reservation structure and suggest reforms that would better serve the aspirations of all sections of the population, especially the youth.
The JKSA, in its call for the protest, highlighted that the current reservation policy has led to widespread dissatisfaction, particularly among students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who feel that the system is not catering to their needs effectively.
The association aims to highlight these issues and urge the government to take swift action to rectify the anomalies in the reservation system.
