Srinagar- The anti-militancy operation in the rugged terrain of Dachigam, on the outskirts of Srinagar, entered its fourth day on Thursday.
The operation, launched on the night of December 2, resulted in the neutralization of one militant on December 3.
The deceased militant was identified as Junaid Bhat – a A category militant from banned organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Local residents informed Kashmir News Trust that security forces fired tear-smoke shells extensively on Thursday, amid intermittent gunfire.
Sources said that the joint forces are operating cautiously, given intelligence inputs suggesting the presence of additional militants in the area.
“The challenging terrain, characterized by steep hills and dense vegetation, has complicated the operation. Security personnel are exercising utmost caution to ensure a successful outcome,” said an official. [KNT]
