Srinagar- J&K senior women’s cricket team defeated Baroda in their opening match of the Senior Women One Day Trophy League Phase on Wednesday at Aditya Academy Stadium in Kadambagachi, Kolkata.
After winning the toss, J&K chose to field first, and their bowlers restricted Baroda to 255 runs in 50 overs.
Medium pacer Sarla took 2 wickets, while Rubiya Sayed claimed 3 wickets. Spinners Sandhya and Ananya Sharma picked up 2 and 1 wickets, respectively. In addition, two run outs helped J&K bowl out Baroda.
In reply, J&K lost two early wickets but a third-wicket partnership between opener Bawandeep and skipper Jasia stabilised the innings. Rubiya Sayed’s quick knock of 50* and skipper Jasia Akhter’s century (124*) guided J&K to a comfortable victory, reaching the target of 259/4 in just 44.3 overs.
Jasia was named player of the match for her excellent batting display.
Brigadier Anil Gupta, Member Administration of J&K Cricket Association, congratulated the team on the win and encouraged them to maintain the momentum in the upcoming matches.
Mithun Manhas, Member Cricket Operations and Development, emphasized the importance of teamwork and following processes for success. Sunil Sethi also praised the team’s performance.
J&K will next play Railways on Friday, December 6, at 8:45 AM.
