Tehran- Israel announced the end of today’s attack on targets in Iran, even as Iranian military confirming the strikes said the attacks have caused limited damage.
Iran’s official IRNA news agency said Iranian air defenses “successfully shot down adversarial targets in the airspace around Tehran province.”
IRNA cited a security source as saying on Saturday morning some of the sounds heard in the capital were caused by “defense activity in Tehran, and the air defense was successful during this incident.”
The news agency said there were no reports of incidents that required assistance and that the situation at two major airports in the capital Mehrabad International Airport and the Imam Khomeini International Airport was “normal.”
Footage shared online captured what appeared to be interceptions over the Iranian capital.
No missile strike or impact occurred on Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) military centers located in the west and southwest of Tehran, the agency reported.
The sounds heard are related to the army’s air defenses engaging Israeli military actions in three areas around Tehran.
Tasnim News considered close to IRGC quoting officials said: “Iran reserves its right to respond to any form of aggression, and there is no doubt that Israel will receive a proportional reaction to any action taken.”
Iran had previously warned Israel that any action taken against their country would warrant retaliation.
There has been no confirmation of the damage done by the strikes. Israel has put its defence systems on high alert as a precaution in case of any retaliation from Iran.
This volley of strikes and counter-strikes is among the latest in a growing conflict between Israel and several West Asian nations, as the former seeks to eliminate the Hezbollah.
Meanwhile White House indicated that Israel’s strikes on Iran should end direct exchange of fire between the two enemy countries, while warning Tehran of “consequences” should it respond.
A senior White House official said the administration believed the Israeli operation should “close out” the direct military exchange between Israel and Iran, and said other allies were in agreement.
AP reported that President Joe Biden was updated throughout the day on Friday as the operation was developing and by his national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, as the operation was carried out by the Israelis.
