Srinagar- The department of Persian Language & Literature University of Kashmir organised an alumni meet at the Department of Persian on Tuesday.
The event brought together alumni of the University and former faculty members of different colleges, Universities and Departments who discussed the rich role of Persian in the history and literature of Kashmir. The event saw the participation of prominent scholars and experts in the field.
The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Dr. Shahnawaz Shah bringing a spiritual start to the proceedings.
Professor Ghulam Rasool Jan, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the deep connection between Persian and Kashmir’s cultural and literary heritage. He remarked, “Persian has played a significant role in shaping the history and literature of Kashmir. Many of our historical texts and poetry are deeply influenced by this language.” He further added, “It has been a very long period since I attended such an event, and I am glad to be here today.”
Professor Jahangir Iqbal presented the welcome address, warmly greeting the attendees and setting the tone for the insightful discussions that followed.
Prof Iqbal praised Late Prof. Shamsuddin Ahmed, Prof. Niyazmand Siddique, especially Prof. Mohammad Munawar Masoodi role in promoting persian in Kashmir especially in Persian Department.
“Professor Masoodi had played a prominent role in enabling quality infrastructure and promoting research in modern spoken Persian at the Department” Iqbal said.
Dean School of Arts, Language & Literature Prof. Salahuddin Tak praised the role of department in kashmir and hoped that the department will continue with the legacy of promoting Persian Language and literature in Kashmir.
Dr Ruksana Jabeen, Former Director Radio Kashmir said it has around fifty years that she has left the department. She urged department to resume ‘Bazmr Mehfil’ wherein students come up with their talents.
“It is the responsibilty of teachers to nourish the talents of students”
Dr Shadab Arshad moderated the seminar, ensuring a smooth flow of the program and engaging the speakers with thoughtful questions.
The seminar was an inspiring reminder of the importance of preserving and promoting Persian as part of Kashmir’s historical and literary legacy.
