Srinagar- Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, Member of Parliament from Srinagar representing the National Conference (NC), firmly refuted any claims of discord within the party ranks, emphasizing that he cannot control the spread of baseless rumours.
” I cannot stop rumours, there is no such thing happening.” Mehdi said
He stated that the primary challenges for the Omar Abdullah-led government will be not only to deliver effective governance but also to strive for the reinstatement of the rights seized from the people of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019.
“I cannot stop rumour mongers from propagating falsehoods. There is absolutely no question of any differences within the party leadership,” Ruhullah said.
Addressing the forthcoming challenges for the administration, the NC MP underlined the dual responsibility of the government: ensuring governance while opposing detrimental policies. “The government must challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decisions, especially those taken on August 5, 2019, which stripped J&K of its special status. Concurrently, the administration must ensure effective governance,” Ruhullah affirmed.
On the Congress party’s decision to abstain from joining the Cabinet, Ruhullah pointed out that while they may have opted out of ministerial positions, they remain integral to the functioning of the government. “This seems to be an internal decision of the Congress. Although not part of the Cabinet, they are still very much a part of the government,” he said, adding that the NC has no intention of meddling in the internal deliberations of its ally.
Ruhullah concluded by reiterating the crucial role of the INDIA alliance, both in Kashmir and across the nation, to safeguard the rights of the populace and to fortify secularism as a guiding principle.
