Srinagar: The outgoing chief of the Jammu and Kashmir police RR Swain claimed on Monday that he had done all within his command and control to bring about peace in the region, and that people, irrespective of language, ethnicity, or religion, ought to enjoy it.
On his last day of service, Swain, an IPS officer (AGMUT: 1991) who succeeded Dilbag Singh as the 17th DGP of the J&K police on October 31 last year, paid floral tributes to the fallen soldiers at Balidan Stambh in Pratap Park, claiming that he could be one of the hundreds of his colleagues who lost their lives in J&K.
Nalin Prabhat, a 1992 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, would succeed Swain as the 18th Director General of Police (DGP) of J&K.
For any police or security forces officer, he said, the Balidan Stambh which embodies the emotions, the fervor, and the blood and sweat of those who laid down their lives in the line of duty is no less than a place of worship.
“All mothers, sisters, children, parents, and elderly citizens in J&K ought to live in harmony and prosperity, free from intimidation and fear, regardless of their religion or race,” Swain told the media, adding, It was a highly eventful phase in which I tried to contribute to, and bring about lasting peace, or peace with dignity as many would say, but for me it was more than just a lip service; it was a difficult choice that I made with all of my heart, body, and mind.
Swain also expressed his sincere gratitude to the government and to the Almighty for providing him with an opportunity to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Swain, he was satisfied with his attempts to have a beneficial influence on the area “I believe I haven’t lost the opportunity to play my part”
“I made every effort to seize any opportunity that came my way, should be able to bring smiles, happiness, peace, and prosperity—not just to the security forces but to the entire population of J&K,” he said, adding, not everyone is given this opportunity. Besides Almighty, I express my sincere gratitude to the government and all my fellow J&K police officers as well as other security personnel.
