Srinagar- The Election Commission of India on Friday said 57. 31 percent polling was recorded in the second phase of assembly polls in Jammu & Kashmir.
As per data released by the poll-body, the female voter turnout was recorded higher than male turnout in 10 assembly segments which saw polling in the second phase on September 25.
The statistics released a day after the elections were conducted in six districts of the union territory including Srinagar, revealed higher voter participation among women than among the men.
Kangan Assembly seat in Central Ganderbal District, Kashmir, and Mata Vishno Devi in Katra Jammu registered the highest voter participation during the second phase of elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said on Friday.
While Kangan assembly segment registered the highest voter turnout in Kashmir, Khansahib area in the central Budgam district recorded the highest percentage of women in the second phase of the elections.
With 68. 38 percent voter turnout, polling for the first phase of maiden assembly election following the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir was conducted on September 18. The second phase of elections to the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly was held on September 25.
Within the six districts with the highest women voter turnout include the seats of Khansahib, Gulabgarh, Reasi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Kalakote Sunderbani, Nowshera, Rajouri, Budhal, Thanamandi, Surankote, Poonch Haveli, and Mendhar.
Kangan hamlet in central Ganderbal district, according to ECI statistics, recorded the highest voter turnout in Kashmir with 72.18 % followed by 72.08 % in Khansahib, 70. 27 % in Charar-I-Sharif, 66. 95 % in Beerwah, 57. 19 % in Chadoora and 52. 27 % in Budgam.
In Jammu, the highest voter turnout was 80. 45 % was recorded in Mata Vaishno Devi followed by 74. 94 % in Surankote, 74.56 % in Poonch Haveli, 73. 60 % in Gulabgarh, 73. 56 % in Mendhar, 73. 05 % in Nowshera, 72. 88 % in Thanamandi, 72. 06 % in Reasi and 68. 82 % in Kalakote-Sunderbani.
With 0.04 %, Budhal in Rajouri district of Jammu recorded the highest low among all assembly segments in six districts followed by 19.81% in Habba Kadal, 26. 09 % in Khanyar, 29. 53 % in Chanapora, 30. 78 % in Zadibal, 31. 84 % in Central Shalteng, 32. 39 % in Hazratbal, 34. 15 % in Lal Chowk and 36. 95 % in Eidgah.
