Srinagar- Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat, said on Tuesday that ration cards, driving licenses, passports, Adhar cards, and voter ID cards are all recognized as ‘acceptable forms of identification’ on the day of polling.
In order to cast a ballot, those who have not received or have misplaced their voter slips will be required to present one of the 10 official papers including ration cards, driving licenses, passports, Adhar cards, and voter ID cards, according to Bhat, who is also the District Election Officer (DEO) Srinagar.
Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, according to the DC, is the only district in the entire union territory to have the maximum additions in the special summary revision, with an overall voting rate of 36% in the Lok Sabha elections.
Regarding security measures for the second phase of assembly elections, DC Srinagar claimed, all the necessary arrangements have been put in place to guarantee a ‘seamless’ conduct of the elections in the district.
“Srinagar has the most additions in the special summary revision, which I am happy to share. There have been 35,000 new additions since the Lok-Sabha polls. I appeal to everyone to vote tomorrow, especially those casting their first ballots. We have put forth a lot of effort and finished all the arrangements. No polling booth is more than two km away, and no clubbing has been done either,” Dr Bilal told the media here.
Polling staff was dispatched to 932 designated polling stations in Srinagar, where about 7.7 lakh listed voters were expected to cast their ballots in eight assembly constituencies in the second phase of the elections.
Srinagar city, according to Dr Bilal, witnessed an overwhelming response in the general elections as the city alone recorded 36 percent polling out of the total 58.46 percent in the entire Jammu and Kashmir.
All polling stations have Webcast facilities and the polling will be jointly observed by the DEO Srinagar, the Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar, and Returning Officers (ROs) from the Integrated Control and Command Centre Srinagar.
Over eighty-five voters with special needs participated in the Home Voting that took place in Srinagar from September 19 to September 22, he said.
“We want everyone to vote, including those with special needs, and all the arrangements, such as wheelchairs, ramps, and other facilities, have been finalized. 7.76 lakh voter information slips have also been distributed in Srinagar; however, this does not exclude anyone from casting a ballot if they have not received or have misplaced the same,” DC Srinagar added.
