Srinagar- The High Court of J&K and Ladakh has directed authorities to demarcate entire Kahcharie (farm) land in Sheikhpora area in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, and ensure that not even an inch of it is encroached upon by any of the villagers.
“Subject to objections and till next date of hearing, it is provided that the Tehsildar, Budgam shall demarcate the entire Kahcharie land in village Sheikhpora, Budgam, and ensure that not even an inch of Kahchaire land is encroached upon by any of the villagers including private respondents,” a bench of Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi said in an order which was issued last month but made available today.
“Let a report in this regard be submitted to this Court by or before the next date of hearing (28.10.2024),” the court said adding, “It is made clear that nobody including the private respondents shall be allowed to raise the construction on the recorded Mehfooz Kahcharie land in the village”.
The court was hearing a plea, seeking direction upon officials to protect the “Mehfooz Kahcharia land”/Land Reserved for grazing purposes for the entire village to the extent of more than 191 Kanals at village Sheikhpora Tehsil and adjoining it.
The petitioner also seeks direction to authorities to demolish the various kinds/types of constructions made by the encroachers illegally and without any justification in the Mehfooz Kahcharie land/Land Reserved for Grazing purposes.
