Srinagar- Former principal Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar Dr Qazi Masood passed away on Thursday after prolonged illness.
Dr Masood was principal/dean GMC Srinagar from August 2011 to September 2012.
He was formerly HoD Dermatology GMC Srinagar. Dr Masood was husband of Prof Shahida Mir, former HoD Gynaecology and Obstetrics GMC Srinagar.
His contributions to the medical field and his leadership at GMC Srinagar are widely acknowledged and respected. The medical fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir mourned his death and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, GMC Srinagar has expressed deep shock over the sad demise of Prof (Dr) Qazi Masood (Ex-Principal/ Dean, GMC Srinagar).

Prof (Dr) Qazi Masood served as Principal/ Dean, GMC Srinagar, in the year 2011 & 2012, prior to that he was Professor and Head, Department of Dermatology, GMC Srinagar.
He joined GMC Srinagar as a faculty in the year 1982 and during his tenure he served GMC Srinagar in different capacities. His contributions in the medical and academic fields are highly commendable and his leadership quality is widely acknowledged and respected everywhere.
A condolence meeting was held today on 25th July 2024 in Govt. Medical College, Srinagar to condole the sad demise of Prof. Qazi Masood, which was chaired by Principal/ Dean, Prof (Dr) Iffat Hassan.
The meeting was attended by Administrator, Associated Hospitals, GMC Srinagar, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak along with various Heads of Department, Medical Superintendents, Senior Faculty Members, Officers and administrative staff of GMC Srinagar, who expressed grief over his demise and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul and also extended their sympathies with Prof (Dr) Shahida Mir (Ex-Principal/ Dean, GMC Srinagar) and other family members.
While condoling the demise of Prof. Qazi Masood, Principal/ Dean, GMC Srinagar, Prof (Dr) Iffat Hassan conveyed her heartfelt condolences and prayed for peace to the departed soul and called it a personal loss. She illustrated how under the guidance and patronage of Late Prof. Qazi Masood, the department of Dermatology reached newer heights and she felt herself blessed to have worked with him as he was not only an astute Clinician, an academician par excellence but also a great Administrator.
Various Heads of Department, faculty members and other Administrative Staff paid rich tributes to the departed soul and prayed for his eternal peace.
