Srinagar- Taking note of the complaints received by the Fee and Fund Regulatory Committee (FFRC) vis-à-vis capitation fee charged by the private schools, Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DESK) Wednesday warned deregistration of institutions which are found to be receiving admission fees from students.
The government has always prioritized quality education to all citizens equitably, according to Dr. Tassaduq Hussain Mir, Director of School Education Kashmir, saying any private institution found to have violated the government’s established norms will face penalization
The Director Education said the issues raised at a meeting of the Fee Fixation Committee (FFC) recently have been addressed, and that the minutes of meeting will be released within the next four days.
The assertions come in reference to the barrage of complaints that the Fee and Fund Regulation Committee (FFRC) had received regarding the huge capitation fees being received by the private institutions.
“I put together the minutes of meeting this morning, which I will be forwarding to the FFRC for further action, which may include a fine and cancellation of registration in the event of a extreme infractions,” Director Education told reporters on the sidelines of a function at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kothibagh.
Responding to a question on whether the parents had complained to the authorities about the capitation fees private schools in Kashmir were receiving, he said the FFRC had received several complaints in this regard, all of which had been thoroughly examined.
“All of these issues were thoroughly discussed at a meeting of the Fee Fixation Committee (FFC) that was held about twenty days back; the action will be taken after the minutes of meeting are sent to the chairman of the FFRC,” Director Education added.
Responding to a query whether the government prolongs summer break in schools considering the soaring temperatures in the valley, he said the decision in this regard is contingent upon the local meteorological department’s advisory.
“We are assessing the ground situation and will take a call based on a weather advisory. We are currently in touch with the local meteorological department,” he added.
About the proposed establishment of new government schools to accommodate deserving students, the Director of Education claimed the DSEK offers free education to the students under Right to Education Act (RTE) and that admission to meritorious students and those living in catchment areas will be based on merits.
