The meeting stressed the importance of unity and brotherhood among the Ummah, respect for each other and constant dialogue among the various sects as the way forward for the success of the ummah. It agreed that altercations and oneupmanship among the various schools of thought, is detrimental to the growth of Islam and greatly weakens the ummah .
As such the meeting urged all Shia and Sunni organisations, scholars, preachers, speakers and imams to play a constructive role in maintaining unity and harmony among all the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir especially as the sacred days of Muharram commence.
The members asked them to consciously refrain from making statements or comments from the pulpit, on social media and other media and from public platforms that lead to divisiveness and encourages miscreants and elements opposed to unity, to succeed.
The meeting appreciated the efforts of the Majlis-e-Ulema patron Mirwaiz Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq for playing a leading role in fostering unity of the ummah and taking everyone along. Despite being kept under continued house arrest for more than four years and since then also repeatedly detained at home, he is always trying his best in spite of restrictions and hurdles, to forge unity among the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir”.
The meeting denounced that Mirwaiz was again put under house arrest on Sunday.
This meeting also denounced the unjust and unfair suspension of Dr Kamal Farooqi, the preacher and Imam of Asaar Shareef Dargah Hazratbal, from performing his duties, by the J&K Waqf Board. The members said that Dr Kamal Farooqi and his predecessors have for decades rendered great service to Aasar sharief Hazratbal. It urged the J&K Wakf board to immediately reinstate Dr Farooqi without delay.
