New Delhi- A Delhi Court on Saturday postponed hearing of Engineer Rashid’s interim bail plea until July 1 for taking oath.
Earlier also the Court deferred the final verdict on the plea of Rashid for granting interim bail for taking oath as Member of Parliament on multiple occasions and the latest one was on June 19, 2014.
Rashid recently emerged victorious over former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Baramulla constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, running as an Independent.
Rashid, imprisoned since 2019, faces charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) related to alleged terror funding. He is currently detained in Tihar Jail.
Rashid has moved the court seeking interim bail, or custody parole in the alternative, to take oath and perform his parliamentary functions.
The former MLA’s name cropped up during the interrogation of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who the NIA had arrested for allegedly funding terrorist groups and separatists in the Valley.
The NIA had filed a charge sheet against several individuals, including Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin in the case.
Malik was awarded life imprisonment by a trial court in 2022 after he pleaded guilty to the charges.
