Srinagar- Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Srinagar to lead the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) today.
This year’s IDY, themed “Yoga for Self and Society,” aims to promote global health and wellness through the practice of yoga.
According to officials around 6.30 am today, the Prime Minister will participate in the 10th International Day of Yoga event at SKICC in Srinagar.
“The Prime Minister will also address the gathering on the occasion and take part in the CYP Yoga session thereafter.”
Stringent multi-layer security arrangements have been put in place for the Prime Minister’s two-day visit to Kashmir.
Official sources said that around eight thousand participants will join him in performing yoga on Friday on the banks of the picturesque Dal Lake.
The participants have been trained over the past three days in the yoga ‘Asanas’ to be performed by the Prime Minister, they added.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha highlighted the significance of the Prime Minister’s visit, noting its importance for unity, wellness, and celebration.
“This event marks a significant moment for the region, promoting unity, wellness, and celebration. We look forward to welcoming PM Modi and participants from across the country,” said Sinha. He emphasized that it is an honor for the entire Kashmir valley to host the Prime Minister on this special day.
Over the past decade, yoga has gained substantial recognition both nationally and internationally. The International Day of Yoga, initiated by PM Modi in 2015, has seen participation from more than 235 million people globally.
In Jammu and Kashmir alone, 2.3 million people participated in last year’s Yoga Day, with the number of daily practitioners steadily increasing.
“Yoga is becoming an integral part of life for many people in the region. For a stress-free life, people are increasingly turning to yoga,” Sinha noted.
As preparations reach their final stages, security measures have been tightened across Srinagar.
The SKICC, situated on the picturesque Dal Lake, is being decked out to welcome the Prime Minister and thousands of yoga enthusiasts. The event will feature a series of yoga demonstrations and workshops led by renowned yoga instructors, emphasizing the theme of “Yoga for Self and Society.”
Local residents have expressed their excitement and pride in hosting such a significant event. “It’s a moment of great pride for us. The Prime Minister’s presence here on International Yoga Day is a testament to the importance of our region,” said a local resident.
The International Day of Yoga has become a global phenomenon, celebrated in over 190 countries. The event aims to raise awareness about the numerous benefits of yoga, including improved mental and physical health, and to encourage people to incorporate yoga into their daily routines.
The government said that the 10th International Day of Yoga promises to be a memorable event, fostering a spirit of wellness and harmony across the globe.
