Srinagar- Condemned as ‘cowardice’, the recent terrorist attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Jammu’s Reasi district on June 9, a Bhartiya Janata Party leader today embarked on a solitary one-day hunger strike, blaming Pakistan for innocent killings in Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior BJP leader Khalid Jahangir staged a hunger strike on a road near the party’s Church Lane office here, accusing Pakistan of causing the violence in J&K.
Jahangir, who ran unsuccessfully in the 2014 Assembly elections, claimed that by launching such heinous assaults, the neighboring country seeks to stifle the UT’s economy.
Nine people lost their lives in the terror attack on a bus carrying pilgrims to Shiv Khori Temple in Katra near Reasi on Sunday evening. Of the nine, four members of a family including a two-year-old boy died after the bus fell into a gorge following gunfire by terrorists.
“I vehemently condemn the terrorist attack on innocent pilgrims in Reasi. In actuality, the neighboring nation, which opposes J&K’s economic growth, is the one behind these instances,” the BJP leader told the media.
Pakistan, he said, has never supported peace in J&K and is still working on its evil plans to stifle its economy. In order to prevent innocent deaths in the future, he asked J&K’s major political leaders to come together on a single platform and condemn such occurrences.
“It’s not about politics; rather, it’s about J&K’s future, which is being severely jeopardised by the neighboring country and its proxies. What offence had these helpless pilgrims committed to warrant such a cruel and brutal death? he questioned.
