LAHORE– The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has put forward Lahore as the proposed home base for the Indian cricket team during the ICC Champions Trophy next year, an initiative aimed at providing optimal security arrangements for the visiting side.
A reliable PCB source mentioned that this recommendation was included in the draft schedule submitted to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in late April. ‘Yes, Lahore has been suggested as the home base for the Indian team to reduce their traveling and to provide them with the best security arrangements,’ the source revealed.
The move follows India’s decision last year to opt out of the Asia Cup games in Pakistan due to security issues, resulting in their matches being relocated to Sri Lanka. Pakistan is slated to host the ICC 50-over event from February 19 to March 9 next year. While the ICC executive board has yet to approve the draft schedule, Karachi and Rawalpindi have also been earmarked as additional venues for the tournament.
Ex-Players Criticize Pakistan’s T20 Defeat To India
Former skipper Salim Malik has leveled serious accusations against Imad Wasim, claiming the player deliberately wasted balls during Pakistan’s crucial six-run loss to India in the T20 World Cup held in New York.
The Pakistan team, chasing a modest 120-run target, found themselves restricted to 113 for 7, consuming a staggering 59 dot balls. Wasim, who took 23 balls to score just 15 runs, came under intense scrutiny.
Adding to the chorus of criticism, former captain Shahid Afridi hinted at internal discord, mentioning some players’ issues with current skipper Babar Azam.
Shoaib Akhtar was equally scathing, questioning if Pakistan deserved a place in the Super Eight stage at all.
