Srinagar- A day after conceding defeat in the Baramulla constituency for the Lok Sabha elections, National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah extended his heartfelt gratitude to the voters for sustaining democratic values.
Abdullah was defeated by Sheikh Abdul Rashid, a former MLA currently imprisoned in Delhi’s Tihar jail under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), who won by a margin of 2,04,142 votes. Also contending was People’s Conference president Sajad Gani Lone.
”In all the noise & the deep personal disappointment yesterday (and a bit of quiet satisfaction looking at the national results & @JKNC_ victories elsewhere) I overlooked thanking the voters of North Kashmir, especially the ones who voted for me, for coming out & using your vote to make your voices heard. Thank you for making the effort to come to the polling booths & keeping the flame of democracy alive,” Abdullah said in a social media post.
The National Conference succeeded in securing two seats in Kashmir, capturing Srinagar and Anantnag-Rajouri constituencies with significant margins.
