Srinagar- Following his resounding victory in the Srinagar parliamentary constituency on Tuesday, National Conference candidate Syed Aga Ruhullah said that he will spare no effort to have the special status and statehood to Jammu and Kashmir restored.
Ruhullah promised to uphold the people’s mandate and work towards realizing their wishes. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of all eighteen assembly segments of Srinagar Parliamentary constituency for reposing their faith in him.
Without delving into the topic of Article 370, Ruhullah said that he will assiduously strive for the restoration of Article 370 and make it clear on the floor of the Parliament that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have not accepted the August 5, 2019 decision.
“I will strive to get back whatever was snatched from us on August 5, 2019, I am obligated to address the issues that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are currently facing because the mandate that I was given has increased my responsibilities as a leader,” he told reporters.
When asked that Omar Abdullah conceded loss to jailed independent candidate Sheikh Abdul Rashid for the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat, the NC leader said accepting people’s verdict is a sign of a great leader.
In reference to the close contest between the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led India bloc, Ruhullah said the India alliance defined its performance by maintaining a lead on 230 seats and that the alliance made a spectacular comeback.
“This time, the opposition will be strong, but trends will change until evening, and hopefully, the opposition will not be an opposition anymore,” he said, adding the India bloc is doing well as people in Uttar Pradesh voted against BJP. “What more could you expect?”
Ruhullah also said that he will strive for the release of all those serving imprisonment in different jails, saying he will respect the people’s mandate with all humility.
The NC leader also congratulated jailed independent candidate Sheikh Abdul Rashid for registering a thumping victory in Baramulla PC and hoped that he along with all those imprisoned, will be released at the earliest.
