Srinagar- A one day seminar on ‘Combating the Crisis Empowering Kashmiri youth against Drug Abuse’ was held at Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition (IHM) Rajbagh Srinagar on Monday.
The event was held by renowned NGO of the valley Help Poor Voluntary Trust with the support of Kashmir American Society for HealthCare, Medical Education and Research (KASHMER)
The event brought together the esteemed faculty of IHM under the leadership of Shabir Ahmed Qazi, principal IHM and students of the institute, team members of ‘Happy & Healthy Minds’ , Dr Syed Riyaz Ahmed Project Manager KASHMER, Dr. Mohammad Muzaffar Khan, renowned Clinical psychologist and Drug de-addiction expert in valley, and counselors engaged with the project .
Dr Muzaffar as distinguished speaker of the event apprised the audiences about the diverse health and socio economic crisis associated with the drug abuse among the vulnerable groups of population in our society.
Role of faculty to help in the development of Institutional policy on tackling drug abuse in order to enhance understanding and implementation of regulations to combat the crisis at institutional level was highlighted.
The powerful message to the esteemed audience was strengthening their core belief system and not to shy away from seeking help in the societal and familial interest.
Dr. Syed Riyaz Ahmed briefly apprised the audience about the ongoing projects supported by KASHMER and future initiatives planned for societal benefit in the healthcare related sector, especially in the underprivileged areas of the valley in collaboration with the reputable organization of the valley, Help Poor Voluntary Trust. Participants felt quite empowered about issues surrounding drug abuse & importance of mental health, and how to help overcome the challenges to ensure drug free society.
The seminar concluded with a pledge to collectively fight against the menace of drug abuse in our communities to ensure drug free society.
