Srinagar- Locals living in the Mir Behri locality of Dal Lake on Thursday claimed that the water level in the lake was above normal inundating a number of localities. They urged administration to throw the gates at Dalgate open.
Speaking to Kashmir Observer locals said the increase in the water level is due to fresh rain during the past few days.
“Dozens of vegetable gardens in the Lake, especially in localities situated in the lower belts were damaged as the water level was more than normal” said Imran Hussain Renu, a resident from Mir Behri’s Runi Mohalla.
“Vegetable gardens in Runi Mohalla, Ching Mohalla and Ashraf Mohalla are drenched in water. Lanes and by-lanes are drenched in water” Imran added.
Another resident speaking on anonymity said that since the gates of Chunti-Khul and Gaw Kadal are closed, the water level has increased damaging vegetable, flower and other gardens in the Lake.
Chief Spokesperson National Conference Tanvir Sadiq took to the social media app X on Wednesday, he tweeted, “Following yesterday’s heartbreaking tragedy, it’s crucial to exercise extra caution.
