Srinagar- Srinagar police on Thursday booked an administrator of a Facebook page on the charges of ‘criminal intimidation and alleged sexual assault of a lady’, two days after a controversy erupted over a non-governmental organization soliciting contributions from a mobile van in Srinagar.
The victim (name withheld) filed a criminal complaint at Rainwari police station, leading to the registration of a case against Mudasir Bashir alias Mudasir Aziz son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat of Khayam, the administrator of a Facebook page ‘Kashmir Youth Power’.
Pertinent to mention here that the court of the Munsiff/Sub Registrar Srinagar Adnan Manzoor Naqashbandi had restrained Aziz from meddling in the NGO’s affairs or uploading any video pertaining to it.
The court directions came following a defamation suit filed by the victim. The court had also directed the admin to remove all the related content to the case in hand from his Facebook pages forthwith.
An investigation has been taken up to ascertain the facts, a senior police official informed Kashmir Observer, confirming the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) number 8 of 2024 under sections 341 (Wrongful Restrain), 354 (sexual Assault), 499 (Defamation) and section 506 (criminal Intimidation) against the accused admin.
Aziz, he added, may be taken on a police remand in light of the vicious accusations made by the complainant woman, who manages the nonprofit Smile Foundation in Srinagar.
