Srinagar- A truck driver carrying building material died after the vehicle he was driving struck the concrete barrier before landing into Dal Lake near Makai Park here this morning.
The incident, according to police occurred, when the driver lost control over the truck bearing registration number JK06-2696 and plunged into Dal Lake after hitting the concrete barrier.
A rescue team, police said, was instantly dispatched to the spot to retrieve the body of the driver identified as Tariq Ahmad Khatana son of Mohammad Hussain Khatana of Kangan area in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
After strenuous efforts, police said, a hydraulic crane helped bring the tipper out of Dal Lake.
A forma case was registered at the concerned police station and further investigations taken up. The dead body of the driver has also been handed over to his family after necessary formalities.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver died on the spot. The incident prima facie took place due to over speeding,” a police official told Kashmir Observer.
