Srinagar- A worker from Punjab who was injured in Wednesday’s terror attack in Srinagar’s Habba Kadal area died at the SKIMS hospital here this morning, taking the toll to two in the first targeted killing of the year by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
The city is on alert following the attack with security measures being intensified and authorities asking people to be cautious and vigilant.
Rohit Masih succumbed to injuries at the SKIMS Hospital here this morning. He was shifted to the tertiary care institution late Wednesday night after his condition worsened at the SMHS Hospital, officials said.
On Wednesday, Amritpal Singh, also a worker from Punjab, was shot dead from point blank range at Shalla Kadal in uptown Habba Kadal.
Meanwhile, the body of Amritpal Singh reached his native village today, where the cremation took place.
The body of Rohit is expected to reach Amritsar by tomorrow where the last rites will be held
The attack was condemned by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha who said the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
Meanwhile, political leaders across party lines expressed shock at the loss of lives and vehemently denounced the attack.
Punjab Grants 2 Lakh, J&K Govt. 1.5 Lakh To Kins Of Victims
Punjab government on Thursday gave an ex-gratia grant of ₹ 2 lakh each to the families of two workers from Amritsar who were killed in Wednesday’s terror attack in Srinagar.
As per police officials, Jammu and Kashmir administration also gave families of both victims ₹50,000 cash each, apart from a cheque for ₹1 lakh each.
The body of one of the victims, Amritpal Singh, reached his native village Chamiari, near Ajnala town, amid a pall of gloom.
His cremation of the second victim, Rohit Masih, 25, also from Chamiari village, who succumbed in Srinagar Thursday will be held on Friday.
A villager Gurjant Singh said, “Masih was the family’s lone breadwinner. He accompanied Amritpal as a helper in carpentry work. He leaves behind his parents, wife and a daughter.”
Punjab cabinet minister and Ajnala MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal visited both families and delivered the grant cheques. “The state government stands with the grieving families and will extend every kind of aid,” he said.
