SRINAGAR- The first leg of the fourth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games in Leh, Ladakh, concluded on Tuesday, with the Maharashtra contingent dominating the event.
The Maharashtrians ended the Leh leg of the 2024 Winter Games top of the leaderboard, raking in 6 Gold, 8 Silver and 6 Bronze, for a combined medals tally of 20. Karnataka is in second place, with 6 Gold and 2 Bronze medals.
Hosts Ladakh (in picture) have 16 medals, proving the team’s prowess on ice. They have won 2 Gold, 6 Silver and 7 Bronze medals. This is the first time the region is hosting the Winter Games. J&K hosted and won the the first three events 2020, 2021 and 2023.
Telangana and Uttar Pradesh have also picked 2 Gold medals each, while and Madhya Pradesh, ITBP and Army have clinched 1 Gold each.
With a total of 21 Gold medals on the line, the first leg of the 2024 Khelo India Winter Games in Leh, Ladakh, witnessed some thrilling action over five days.
A total of 344 athletes, representing 15 states and Union Territories and two public institutions, competed for medals in two sports – ice hockey and speed skating.
The second leg is scheduled from February 21 to 25, in Gulmarg.
