BARAMULLA- The Khelo India Winter Games 2024 is set to kick start from February 21, with arrangements in place to make the event a success. A total of 800 athletes from 20 states are set to compete in Snowboarding, Alpine Ski, Nordic Ski and Snow Mountaineering competitions during the event.
As per J&K Sports Council Secretary Nuzhat Gul, the competition will run till February 26, with athletes arriving at the location from February 18 onwards. The authorities had reportedly sought to defer the games, which were scheduled to be held from February 2 due to a lack of snowfall in the region. However, with Gulmarg recording over one foot of snow in recent days has given fresh impetus to tournament.
An important meeting was also convened on Thursday at the Gulmarg Club, chaired by the Chief Executive Officer of Gulmarg Development Authority, to discuss preparations for the fourth edition of the Winter Games.
Representatives from various hotels in Gulmarg were present at the meeting, ensuring a comprehensive discussion on accommodation arrangements for the forthcoming games.
Assistant Director of Tourism, Executive Officer of Gulmarg/ Tangmarg Municipal Corporation, Tehsildar Tangmarg, Divisional Sports Officer of Kashmir, and other officials from the Gulmarg Development Authority attended the meeting.
