Srinagar- Two of the 186 people who were arrested in connection with illicit drug trafficking have been charged under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA), and 16 more under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1988 (PIT NDPS) in Srinagar.
Official data revealed that 107 cases of illicit drug trafficking have been registered by the police in the summer capital since January 2023 till date.
A senior police official said that a huge haul of contraband substances has also been recovered from those arrested in connection with drug peddling in Srinagar. A cash amount of Rupees 25 lakh has also been recovered from the drug peddlers, he said.
“Strict monitoring of designated hotspots in Srinagar, together with an ongoing campaign against drug traffickers who have established a foothold here, has resulted in a notable shift on the ground,” the official told Kashmir Observer.
As many as 107 cases of drug peddling have been registered in Srinagar District with 186 drug peddlers of which two were charged under PSA and 16 under PIT-NDPS have been arrested so far, he added.
He also said that 108.52 grams of Brown Sugar, 17.07 kilogram Heroin, 11.81 kilogram Hashish (charas), 19.5 kilogram Wing (Fukki), 1361 PSY Syrup bottles and 41812 PSY capsules.
