Srinagar- Ten people dead while 14 other sustained injuries in a major road accident that occurred in Baramulla and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police said that eight persons died on Wednesday when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said.
A passenger vehicle rolled down into a deep gorge in Boniyar area of Uri in the north Kashmir district, they said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Paul Singh, told PTI that seven people died in the incident while eight others sustained injuries. The bodies have been recovered and medico-legal formalities are being conducted, the SSP said. The injured persons have been taken to a hospital in Baramulla, he added.
In Kishtawar, two persons lost their lives while two more were injured as a snow cutter machine met with an accident in the Warwan area. .
Quoting an official, a local news agency reported that a snow cutter machine met with an accident in Warwan, resulting in two fatalities while two more were injured.
Those who lost their lives have been identified as Shafiya Banoo daughter of Gh Mohidin and Gh Mohidin son of Shaban Chopan both residents of Inshan Warwan.
Injured persons have been identified as Ab Gani Koka and Khursheed Ahmad both residents of Brayan.
Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Dr Divansh Yadu announced 5 Lakh each who have lost their lives in an accident while one lakh each for injured persons.
He said that if the weather permits the injured will be airlifted to district hospital Kishtwar tomorrow.
Meanwhile police have taken cognizance and started an investigation.
LG Announces Ex-gratia
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a road accident in Baramullah and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each for the Next of Kin of those who lost their lives in the tragic road accidents in Baramulla and Kishtwar on Wednesday.
The LG tweeted: “Deeply saddened by the tragic accidents in Baramulla & Kishtwar. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
“An ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives in the tragedies. The injured would be given Rs. 1 Lakh. Directed the district administrations to provide all possible assistance to the families expeditiously,” LG wrote.
