SRINAGAR- The J&K senior men’s cricket team capped off two brilliant days of Ranji Trophy cricket to enter Day 3 against hosts Odisha in a strong position at DRIEMS Ground in Tangi, Cuttack.
After bowling out Odisha for 130, the team ended Day 1 precariously placed at 45/4, with all opening four batters gone. J&K’s lower-order came to the rescue and was ably led by all rounder Abid Mushtaq 50 (51) and Umar Nazir Mir 25 (23) to bring them to 180/10 in 45.4 overs. For Odisha, Rajesh Mohanty picked up 5 wickets.
With a slender 50 runs lead, the J&K bowlers had reduced Odisha to 126/7 in 43 overs at the end of Day 2. Rohit Sharma, Umar Nazir Mir and Aquib Nabi took 2 wickets each, while Umran Malik chipped in with 1 wicket. For Odisha, Sandeep Pattnaik 47* (108) was holding the fort, as the team led J&K by 76 runs.
J&K would hope to keep the chasing total to under 100 runs, as the wicket at DRIEMS Ground seems to favour pace.
