Srinagar– Lack of parking spaces in the old city has resulted in frequent traffic jams in the overcrowded city, causing traders to incur huge losses.
The aggrieved traders appealed to the authorities to impose a ban on parking of vehicles on the roads in the old city and take legal action against anyone found to be in violation of the orders.
“We suffer huge business losses as a result of the lack of designated parking spaces in the overcrowded marketplaces. The motorists without giving a damn to the traffic rules park their vehicles in the middle of the roads, causing huge traffic jams in the area,” said Nazir Ahmad Shah, president, Shehr-e-Khaas Traders Coordination Committee.
The land was designated by the government as a parking area twelve years ago, but no concrete measures were taken to turn it into a parking area, Shah added.
