SRINAGAR– Real Kashmir FC hosts Shillong Lajong FC as the two teams go head-to-head in I-League 2023-24 today, Saturday, December 16, at Synthetic Turf TRC, with kick off at 2:00 PM.
The Snow Leopards will look to extend their unbeaten I-League run to six matches as they take on the Meghalaya-based side. Real Kashmir are third in the I-League standings, having played nine matches and collecting 17 points. The Ishfaq Ahmed-coached team has won five, drawn two and lost two this season.
Meanwhile, Shillong Lajong, coached by Bobby L Nongbet, have won three of their previous five matches. The team has 16 points from nine matches, placing it fifth in the I-League table.
Real Kashmir has only let in four goals this season, and Coach Ishfaq was all praises during a pre-match conference on Friday.
“Like defenders and goalkeeper, our strikers also played good football,” he said.
Ishfaq Ahmed was also asked about playing at the Synthetic Turf at TRC.
“Playing on natural and artificial turf has different effects. In the last away game on natural turf, we won 4-0. Adjusting from artificial to natural turf is challenging; players need time. Despite the challenges, we must overcome them and secure victories,” Ishfaq said.
Real Kashmir’s Portuguese defender Carlos Lomba complemented Kashmiris and their hospitality. “Everyone treated me very well. Locals in Kashmir are also getting an opportunity to perform. They are taking opportunities very seriously and performing well,” Carlos said.
The 2023-24 I-League season is being led by the undefeated Mohammedan SC, who have taken 23 points from their nine games, winning seven and drawing two.
