Srinagar- Pakistani handlers are trying to disrupt peace in Kashmir Valley by exploiting the situation emerging from a protest by students at National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar over an alleged blasphemous post against the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), a senior police official said Thursday.
An official from the Cyber police told Kashmir Observer that they have identified a number of X handlers who had used “instigating and provocative” posts on X and the process has been started to arrest them.
“We have already identified some individuals and are in process to identify more,” the official said.
Notably, following the massive protest, the administration had to announce the winter vacation for NIT and asked the students to vacate the hostels with immediate effect.
The police official said an attempt is being made from the handlers based in Pakistan to disturb law and order and the toolkit is operating across the border.
“A number of fake X handles have been created from the past few days and continuously post anti-national content on social media following the incident in NIT. But we are closely monitoring them and the investigation is going on,” the official said.
These handles, he said, have been created after October 23.
The cyber police requested people to be responsible and appropriately use social media and restrict from using “unlawful content”.
“We will take strict action against those people who are trying to disrupt peace in the city,” the official said.
The official further said they have registered a separate FIR against the individuals who posted “hateful content” against the girl in the NIT incident.
“We have received a complaint from the family of the girl and have registered an FIR. We will take action against those who posted pictures of the girl and dragged her into the incident,” the official said.
