Srinagar- A two day interaction meeting cum training workshop was held at SKIMS under ICMR-PCOS Cohort study Phase-II on 26-27 Nov 2023. The 1st phase study which has been completed was based on prevalence of PCOS among the Women of India.
The study was conducted among ten different centers across country with Chief coordinator from SKIMS Soura (Dr Ashraf Ganai Prof, Endocrinology).Dr Ashraf Ganai who presented the successful outcome of 1st phase of this study across India revealed that 19% of Indian women’s suffer from this metabolic disease. He also alarms the audience about its close association with lifestyle diseases.
While discussing the long term five years study(Phase-I) across India he revealed its close association with Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, Obesity and other correlated metabolic conditions associated with lifestyle of people in our country.
The phase second which was discussed by expert representatives from different centers across country which includes centers from AIIMS New Delhi, GMC Trivandrum, PGIMER Chandigarh, AIIMS Raipur, PGIMER Kolkata, MHRT Mumbai, OMC Hyderabad and NEIGRIMS Shilong and SKIMS Soura etc. Apart from these centers, collaborators within J&K from allied institutions including CUK (Prof Afzal Zargar, Registrar) and SKUAST-K (Dr Showkeen Muzamil) were also present in the meeting. The phase second discussed the longitudinal study for next five years which will be based on the follow up of patients and their offspring’s born to them for successful outcome.
The study after completion will be used to frame a future policy based on scientific strategies and thorough study of data generated from patients who will be compiled from Phase I and Phase II. All the twenty centers proposed to work cordially with each other and with allied collaborator institutions of the country for better outcome and preventive measures for this disease.
Chief coordinator Dr Ashraf Ganai proposed the vote of thanks for all experts across the country for their presence and expert views to develop future strategies to tackle this disease. He also emphasized the need of hour to enlist the PCOS among the Non communicable disease to ensure strong efforts from Govt of India and experts to save our future generation and those women who are currently suffering from this disease.
