Srinagar- The 555th birthday of Guru Nanak Dev, founder of Sikhism was celebrated on Monday with religious fervor and gaiety in the Kashmir valley.
Besides LG Manoj Sinha, leaders of different political parties greeted the Sikh community on the occasion.
Members of the Sikh community, including women and children, in colorful dresses were seen visiting Gurdwaras since morning amid intense cold.
The main function was held at Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi on the foothill of Kohimaran in Rainawari Srinagar.
Braving intense cold, a large number of Sikhs, including women and children, from different parts of the city visited the Gurudwara.
Members from the Muslim community were seen greeting their Sikh brethren on the occasion.
Special langars were set up in Gurdwaras for the devotees.
Similar religious functions were also held at Jawahar Nagar, Sanant Nagar and other places in Srinagar, Baramulla, Tral, Uri and Pulwama.
Hundreds of devotees also offered special prayers on the occasion in Kargil and Leh despite below freezing temperatures.
The All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) conveyed its greetings to the people on the occasion of Gurupurab being celebrated around the globe. (KNT)
