Srinagar- Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers in Srinagar and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
A police team from the Ram Munshi Bagh police on a tip off intercepted a car bearing registration number JKO1M-1294 near the Shivpora crossing and recovered 2.25 grams of Charas like substance from two people on board.
Those arrested have been identified as Reyaz Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Salam Sheikh of Androoni Kathi Darwaza and Mohammad Ashraf Sofi son of Ghulam Qadir Sofi of Nowhatta.
A formal case FIR number 156 of 2023 under section 8/20 and 29 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at Ram Munshi Bagh police station in this regard and investigations taken up.
The accused would likely be sent to Srinagar Central Jail after being presented before a court of law, a police officer informed Kashmir Observer.
Meanwhile Srinagar police on X, formerly tweeter confirmed the arrest and subsequent seizure of contraband substance from their possession.
“02 drug peddlers namely Reyaz Ahmad Sheikh s/o Ab Salam Sheikh R/o Kathi Darwaza and Mohd Ashraf Sofi s/o Gh Qader R/o Nowhatta arrested with 2 kg and 250 gm of Charas-like substance. FIR No. 156/2023 u/s 8/20, 29 NDPS Act registered in PS RM Bagh,” Srinagar police said.
