Srinagar- Thousands of devotees from across the valley converged at Dastgeer Sahab shrines in Khanyar and Sarai Payeen in Srinagar on the annual Urs of 11th century Sufi saint on Friday.
The biggest congregation on the occasion was held at the Dastgeer Sahib Shrine in the Khanyar, where a sizable number of devotees joined in the nightlong prayers (Shab Khawani) to pay homage to the Sufi saint.
At Sarai Bala Dastgeer Sahib Shrine, hundreds of devotees including men, women, and children paid reverence and participated in congregational prayers during a similar gathering.
Congregational prayers on the Urs of Peer Dastgeer Sahab (R.A) were also held at Asar Sharif Anchar Soura Srinagar, Baramulla and Bandipora in north Kashmir.
Devotees from length and breadth of the valley thronged Khanyar to have a glimpse of the holy relic locally known as Mouia Pak, a hair strand of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gilani (R.A).
Chief cleric of the shrine or Sajjada Nisheen, displayed the holy relic after every prayer beginning from Fajr (dawn prayer) while Devotees with moist eyes amid recitation of verses from holy Quran sought blessings for them and that of their loved ones from almighty on the occasion.
Emotional scenes were also witnessed on the Urs with devotees especially women crying on having the glimpse of holy relic.
Chairperson of Waqf Board Jammu and Kashmir Darakhshan Andrabi visited the holy shrine of Dastgeer Sahib at Khanyar day before yesterday and paid obeisance and took stock of the arrangements placed for the visiting devotees.
The eleven day of Urs Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani began on 16th of this month with elaborate arrangements put in place by the administration for the devotees.
The annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani begins on 1st day of Rabi Al Thani during which special prayers are held every day till 11th day of Rabi Al Thani.
