Srinagar- Police on Thursday arrested a man posing as an Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Ayush Koul alias Vicky of Srinagar’s posh Rajbagh locality was arrested by police a day after receiving a complaint from Ghulam Hassan Malik, a resident of Aalipora Putlibagh, about an alleged impersonation scam, a police spokesperson said.
Malik, he said, had stated that Vicky posed as an IAS officer and defrauded him of Rs 6.5 lakh under the pretext of securing government employment for his son.
In response to the complaint, he said, an FIR No. 302/2023 was registered under sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in police station Budgam.
“During the investigation, the primary suspect, Ayush Koul, was apprehended. It was revealed that Koul had an accomplice, identified as Burhan Bashir, a resident of Nundreshi Colony, Bemina. Both Ayush Koul and Burhan Bashir were arrested,” the spokesperson said.
He urged the public to exercise caution and vigilance, and verify the credentials of individuals offering such promises to avoid falling prey to fraudulent schemes.
“The police also encourage anyone with pertinent information related to this case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation,” the spokesperson added.
