Srinagar- The Northern Railways is all set to launch an all-weather glass-ceiling AC train Vistadome in Kashmir on Thursday, offering locals and tourists a breathtaking view of Valley’s beautiful landscape along the 135 km track from Banihal to Baramulla.
J&K Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha will inaugurate the state-of-art vistadome coach in Kashmir on Thursday.
The specially crafted vistadome carriage features double-wide reclining seats that can rotate a full 360 degrees, providing passengers with an enhanced panoramic view of their surroundings. Additionally, it incorporates glass-domed ceilings, automatic sliding doors, luggage racks, LED screens for entertainment, and a GPS-enabled information system.
Chief Area Manager (CAM) Kashmir, Saqib Yousuf Yatoo told Kashmir Observer that the train will operate six days a week and will be available for all. He said the rate of train tickets will be decided later and the AC will be operational in both winter and summer.
An official from the Northern Railways told Kashmir Observer 40-seater vistadome coaches will chug off from Banihal to Budgam and Baramulla stations.
“The train will be inaugurated by the LG on October19,” he said.
The official said the air-conditioned carriage boasts spacious glass windows, a glass roof, an observation lounge, and seats that can rotate, providing passengers with the opportunity to enjoy stunning vistas and points of interest along the 135 km route.
According to the reports, the coaches were produced by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, with an estimated price tag of approximately Rs 4 crore.
The official said that the carriages are outfitted with air conditioning to effectively manage the harsh cold of winter and the scorching heat of summer in the Valley.
The train will be capable of operating smoothly in all weather conditions, whether in the depths of winter or the height of summer.
The official said that the Northern Railways had successfully completed a trial run from Budgam to Baramulla, under the supervision of senior railway authorities in July this year.
For added convenience, the train seats are equipped with trays reminiscent of those found on airplanes, allowing passengers to enjoy meals. They can also order light meals from the Indian Railways menu during the journey.
“The idea is to attract more tourists and to promote tourism in the region,” said an official of the J&K tourism department.
